It froze at the login screen with no mouse movement available. It really comes up much faster when doing a "Restart" instead of a "Full Start" from power down! This second start did not fully complete. I went through the "Normal" login and when it was fully up I selected a "Restart" shutdown.

I powered up and tried to make it to the "F8" key in time for another "Safe Mode" start but missed it, so I ended up letting it go into a full "Normal" start. (Cool!) I then closed "Stinger" and let the machine "Sleep" over night. The first completed normally and I was able to run "Stinger" twice in a row which showed no malware on both runs. I did this by doing two restarts to the regular Windows Desktop. Twice in a row with "System Restore" off and the machine in "Safe Mode" while running the scan.

I was able to run the current "Stinger" three more times on this machine ("C" - running WindowsXP). If it is, your current "Stinger" DID NOT find and repair it all! More work needs to be done on it I guess. Please advise your opinion on this pop-up "Warning!!!" message. I am sure thinking this is another pop-up from the trojan after the "repair" that was done four days ago. That machine has "AVG Anti Virus 9" installed and up to date. Machine was then put into "Sleep" mode where it is now. I did not click on ANY of the pop-up window's buttons. (Note space before the last "period".) I WAS able to go into "Task Manager" and stop this Application from there.

OK, on the "C" machine (WindowsXP Desktop) I spoke of earlier, now 4 days later, the owner reported the following pop-up window that occured after opening "Windows Internet Explorer" after the "repair" using the "Stinger" (v10.0.1.758 data v1000 from 01-25-2010) as discussed in my earlier post.Ĭontent: ? Warning!!! Your personal computer needs to install antivirus software! Personal Security can perform fast and free scan of your computer. Good Luck! (Sounds like you will need it.) Again, I am not an expert but these questions were pretty simple. Maybe the "experts" can weigh-in on your questions too. The trojan MAY see these too and block them from starting - maybe not. I have not tried loading these once the trojan is in place on a machine. Either of these are good and MAY get you past the problem of not being able to open "Windows Task Manager". (3) - Try an alternative task manager like "Process Explorer" ( ) or "Security Task Manager" ( ). Also DO NOT use a CD-RW for the same reasons unless you "finalize" it to prevent any other writing to the disk in the future. A CD can't be re-written to so a virus can't "backwash".

DO NOT use a flash drive (thumb drive - memory stick - whatever) as these could possibly be infected by your first machine (the infected one) and you will move the infection to your other machine (non-infected one) once you put this flash drive back into any other machine.

The idea of "Safe Mode" is to be safe! Connecting out is not that safe.) Load any suggested software from a CD you make of the downloaded software from your other non-infected machine. If you need to try and have this machine connect to the internet when in "Safe Mode", select "Safe Mode with Networking" instead. In the four corners of the screen you will see "SAFE MODE" in white type. The screen will look a bit different that usual once "Safe Mode" starts. Rather quickly, make your selection ("Safe Mode") and push "Enter". This should bring you to a black screen showing "Safe Mode" as the top selection of ways to start up Windows. (If the BIOS load is not visible - start pressing the "F-8" key from about 3 seconds after you turn on the power and about every one second until Windows starts to load). (2) - As your computer restarts - and before Windows starts up! - push the "F-8" key repeatedly and slowly as your BIOS loading shows.

I suggest waiting for one of the "experts" to tell you how to by-pass the trojan and be able to control "System Restore" again. (1) - You do not seem to have control of the "System Restore" anymore. I am not a computer expert but have some thoughts on your questions.

Looks as though the experts are away for a bit.
